Functional Braces
These tried and tested braces work as a pair and are used to treat specific situations where there is a discrepancy between the positions of the top and bottom jaw. They are often used to encourage the lower jaw to grow forward when it has not developed at the same rate as the upper jaw. This difference in jaw positions can result in the top teeth sitting ahead of the lower teeth, creating a ‘goofy’ smile. This method can also avoid the need for extractions or fixed metal braces.
Treatment with removable functional braces usually takes between 6-12 months, during which time the device can be removed for teeth cleaning or playing sport.
