At Stoke Bishop Dental Centre, we offer custom inlays and onlays as a durable and minimally invasive option for restoring teeth with larger cavities. These restorations provide additional support where fillings may not be enough, without requiring the full coverage of a crown.
Inlays and onlays are custom-made restorations used to repair decayed, damaged or weakened teeth – particularly back teeth where chewing forces are greater.
Both inlays and onlays are typically crafted from tooth-coloured porcelain or composite resin, designed to match the appearance and feel of your natural teeth.
An inlay fits within the grooves of the tooth (between the cusps) and is used when the cavity is too large for a standard filling.
An onlay is more extensive, covering one or more of the tooth’s cusps (points). It’s often called a ‘partial crown’ because of the added coverage and strength it provides.
Getting an inlay or onlay is a straightforward and comfortable process:
We’ll assess your tooth and determine whether an inlay or onlay is suitable.
A precise digital impression is taken of your tooth, ensuring a custom fit.
Your scan is sent to our trusted off-site dental laboratory, where your inlay or onlay is carefully crafted from porcelain for a natural-looking result.
Once ready, your inlay or onlay is permanently bonded to your tooth and polished for a seamless finish.
At Stoke Bishop Dental Centre, we take a conservative approach to restorative dentistry, preserving what’s healthy, while expertly repairing what’s not. See if inlays or onlays are right for you at your dental consultation with our team.
