At Stoke Bishop Dental Centre, we understand that visiting the dentist can be a source of anxiety for many people. Whether it’s a mild sense of nervousness before a routine check-up or a more intense dental phobia that prevents you from seeking treatment, we’re here to help.
Our compassionate and experienced team has successfully treated countless patients with dental anxiety, and we offer a safe and effective solution to help make your visits more comfortable: IV (intravenous) sedation.
Intravenous sedation is a proven method of managing dental anxiety. A sedative is administered through a vein in your arm or hand, allowing you to enter a deeply relaxed state while remaining conscious and able to respond to your dentist if needed.
You won’t be asleep, but you’ll feel calm, detached from the procedure and may not remember much (if anything) about your treatment afterward.
IV sedation may be an excellent option if you:
Dental sedation can be life-changing. For patients who have avoided care for years, it allows multiple treatments to be completed in fewer, more manageable appointments – restoring dental health and confidence.
You’re in safe hands at Stoke Bishop Dental Centre. Both Dr Paul Wilson and our clinical team hold qualifications from the Society for the Advancement of Anaesthesia in Dentistry (SAAD) and have extensive experience in providing IV sedation for nervous patients.
We will take the time to listen to your concerns, explain your options and create a plan that helps you feel in control of your care.
We encourage all patients to talk openly with their dentist or nurse before treatment. Knowing what to expect can significantly ease anxiety.
If you choose IV sedation, we’ll ensure you’re comfortable and relaxed throughout. You'll remain responsive, but most patients report little to no memory of the procedure afterward.
As the sedative takes time to wear off, you’ll need someone to accompany you and take you home afterward. We’ll provide full aftercare instructions to ensure a smooth recovery.
Don’t let dental anxiety hold you back from the care you deserve. Whether you need a routine check-up or a more complex treatment like dental implants, sedation dentistry can help you feel relaxed and in control.
